Several days ago, out of the blue, I got the tune for a 20-year-old toothpaste ad stuck in my head. That kind of thing happens to me all the time, and always has, but nowadays there’s this thing called YouTube:

I like the way they try to distract you from the distinctly British accents by dressing one of the kids as Uncle Sam. Brilliant.

Turns out that this is ad was a remake of sorts:

Note the thicker Brit accents this time. To my mind, this one is more polished and cleverly captures the early-80s Brit-ska aesthetic. In a toothpaste ad. Turns out that it’s a reworking of a legitimately cool early-80s Brit-ska tune, so it all sort of makes sense:

I still have no idea what made me think of the original ad. Warlock was on TV last night. Coincidence?
