Sure it’s not polite, but it seems true.
Did you ever see the 2006 Shatner Roast with Takei, Nichelle Nichols et al? Besides the mean stuff, it was pretty much the usual corny nonsense. I think there must have been a lot of prima donna Hollywood stars in the 60s with very little attachment to reality; neither Shatner nor Takei seems to have gotten over it.

I think it’s more a result of years of adulation from a legion of obsessed fans.
I wish I had a legion of obsessed fans. Then I could live in my own little fantasy world too.
