I obviously am not paying attention to the right things. After seeing this post, I looked up Doug Bennett – I had no idea that he had passed away. Depressing.
Depressing indeed. The success of Doug and the Slugs — they had over 10 top-100 singles during a brief period in the 80s — was always improbable, which made them all the more endearing.
There are lots of mediocre 80s acts making a living on nostalgia tours, but the Slugs are one act I wouldn’t have minded seeing again. Alas.
